Red Rock Media is the space media company for humanity's expansion into the cosmos. SpaceX plans to make life multiplanetary by creating a self-sustaining colony on Mars. The first robotic mission to Mars is slated to happen in 2026, and the first manned mission in 2028 — much sooner than people realize.
The landing on Mars will be the biggest event in human history, dwarfing the scale of the Apollo mission (93% Nielsen share in the U.S., 20% of the world population watched). This is even bigger — the Super Bowl meets the Olympics — with global appeal. And it will form the backbone of a new space media company, the Discovery for the space age.
SpaceX and other private space companies have captured the imagination of the world and made it their mission to make life multi-planetary. The goal is to build a self-sustaining and permanent settlement on Mars.
Mars and Earth align in orbit every two years and Elon Musk has publicly said SpaceX will send an unmanned flight in this decade. He and his engineers are highly confident that the first crewed flight to Mars will happen as early as 2028. The trip will take six months.
At an average distance of 140 million miles from Earth, Mars is one of Earth's closest habitable neighbors. While Mars is about half again as far from the Sun as Earth, it still has decent sunlight. The day is remarkably close to that of Earth. It is a little cold, but we can warm it up. Its atmosphere is primarily CO2 with some nitrogen and argon and a few other trace elements, which means that we can grow plants on Mars just by compressing the atmosphere. Gravity on Mars is about 38% of that of Earth, so you would be able to lift heavy things and move around easily. And colonizing Mars will be the greatest adventure in the history of humanity.
